DRY SPELL BROKEN
HEAVY RAIN IN SOUTHLAND NEED IN COUNTRY DISTRICTS (Per United Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Nov. 16. Heavy rain which began in Invercargill late this afternoon and spread inland during the evening gave Southland a much-welcomed soaking after the most prolonged period of drought experienced for some years. In all the country districts the need of rain was clearly evident. The rainfall recorded in Invercargill for August. September, and October amounted to 5.40 inches, comoared with 13.77 inches for the same period last year.
