THE DUKE OF WINDSOR
WIDESPREAD RUMOURS REASON FOR GERMAN VISIT LONDON, Oct. 26. The News Chronicle draws attention to widespread rumours resulting from the Duke of Windsor's German tour. One is that it was planned by certain members of the Government in order to discredit the Duke. Another is that the Nazis arranged it in order to bind him to those in Britain who want an alliance with Germany. A third rumour is that the Duke of Windsor accepted the magnificent hospitality of the German Government because he desired his wife to be treated with proper respect. " The ' truth is probably that the Duke, tired of his meaningless existence, decided on tours in the artless belief that a visit to democratic America after one to Nazi Germany would free him from suspicion of political partiality. The Government should without delay end the undesirable rumours by coming to an agreement that henceforth the Duke's activities would be subject to friendly approval."
