WOMEN'S DIVISION N.Z. FARMERS' UNION

Reports of meetings of branches are requested, but they should be furnished promptly, for the . publication of reports that are not supplied within a week from the date of the meeting cannot be promised. The Hampden branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union met on Thursday last. Mrs Aitcheson presided. The roll call was "A woolly afternoon." It was agreed to forward a donation to the Leper Fund. Mesdames T. York, A. W. Henderson, W. T Ford, and W. B. McAlister were appointed to attend the Country Women's Week. Miss McKerrow gave an interesting demonstration on " First aid." A flower competition, judged by Miss Mcßitchie was won by Mrs J. Dick, with Mrs W. Belcher 2 and Mrs J. R. Douglas 3. The hostesses were Mesdames W. T. Ford, A. W. Henderson, and W. Lester. * * * The Momona branch met on Thursday afternoon last, with Mrs McDonald presiding. The roll call was A Scotch joke." Delegates were chosen for Country Women's Week. Acomoetition for spring flowers for the sen ors was • won by Mrs Amos and for the juniors by Miss I. Gillespie. A written competition was won by Mrs Taylor. Hostesses were Mrs J, McNeil and Miss P. Millar.

* * * The October meeting of the Tapanui branch was held on Thursday last, when Mrs Rutherford Presided. It was decided to give £l tc.thei St. John Ambulance Fund. The programme was in the hands of Misses V. White and N. Saunders who gave an interesting account of the Country Girls' Week which they recently attended in Dunedin. Competitions resulted: "Scones," Mrs: Rutherfordll, '• child's toy," Miss G. Kane 1 and Mrs W Webb 2 The hostesses were Mesda'mes Henke, Powell and Chandler, and Misses McAuley and Potts.

Presided over by Mrs J. Elliott owing to the unavoidable absence through illness of the president (Mrs Purvis) the branch celebrated its fourtn birthday in Shadrock's Hall on October 20. Mrs Elliott briefly welcomed the visitors and members. The evening was taken up with dancing. , Two special items by Miss Ellis and hei pupils were appreciated, as was: also the rendering of a solo by Mrs Stokes. Mrs Mac Kay, of Tarras, lighted the four candles on the birthday cake Mrs Wilson, of Clyde, extinguished them, and Mrs Allison, of Hawea Flat, cut the cake, each participant conveying greetings from their respective branches. Mrs Annan, of Clyde, then spoke a few words of the activities of the division. After supper dancing continued until the early hours of the morning. * * * On Thursday the Otakou branch met, with Mrs Douglass presiding. The roll call was " Dses of kerosene." The competition, "A pair of slippers from an old felt hat," resulted in Mrs Douglass and Mrs Harwood being placed equal first and Miss Ellison second. Mrs Douglass and Mrs Potiki were appointed to attend Country Women's Week. A small donation was granted to the St. John Ambulance Fund. The hostesses were Mesdames Harwood and Newton.
