STEAMER MOLDAVIA
NEW LEASE OF LIFE TO BE ARMED TROOPSHIP MELBOURNE, Oct. 26. The steamer Moldavia, which arrived from London on her last voyage after 15 years in the Australian service, will have a new lease of life as an armed troopship. The officers of the liner stated that the owners had intended to sell the vessel to Japan, but when negotiations v/ere in progress the British Admiralty stepned in and asked them to transfer the Moldavia to the British India Line for conversion to an armed troopship. The ship was designed for such an eventuality when built in 1922 and has specially strengthened plating and shock-resisting emplacements for naval guns.
