MONTAGUE SHOW

BRIGHT VARIETY ENTERTAINMENT Another bright and fast-moving variety entertainment was presented by the Montague Show before a large audience in His Majesty's Theatre last night, the excellent work of the principal performers, and the no less attractive efforts of those in subsidiary parts, evoking sincere expressions of appreciation. The great bulk of the night's entertainment is bome by Mr George Doonan, a skilful and resourceful comedian, whose refreshing style and great fund of humorous sallies and witticisms assist materially in keeping the entertainment moving at a merry pace. Excellent support is given the principal comedian by Mr Jimmy Jewell, who is also highly accomplished in the realm of burlesque, while Mr Ben Wariss is another whose comedy adds considerably to the enjoyment of the production. The Dawn Sisters, an amusing pair of burlesque dancers, provide an exceedingly clever and entertaining interlude, Miss Alma Mackie and the Two Rogues also contributing to the dancing side of the show. Miss Catherine Stewart and Miss Margaret Kelly presented some engaging vocal numbers, further musical items being skilfully handled by the Blenders, a male quartet. The Darmora Troupe of dancers, headed by Madame Darmora, is a brilliant combination, whose work really sets the seal of complete success on the entertainment. Artistry, precision and grace are embodied in all the ballets presented, the charm and colour of the ensembles, the beautiful frocking, and the skilful and rhythmic dancing making the work of this group of artists one of the high lights of the evening. The production of the show is in the hands of Mr Lewis Mark, whose capable control is reflected in the unhesitating pace set by the entertainment throughout the evening. Mr Cyril Connolly also plays no inconsiderable part in the success of the production, his control of the orchestra being admirable. The entertainment, which goes under the title of "Let's Go Places," will be shown each night for the remainder of the week.
