Lawn Tennis On Labour Day the Balmacewen lawn tennis team visited Palmerston and played a match with the local team, which was victorious, winning by 18 sets to 6. Mr A. Woodhead, the president, welcomed the visitors, and said his club appreciated the visit and the opportunity of trying conclusions with a city team. After the general business was concluded the president presented Mr J. Penno, of Merton, with a clock, and referred to the loss the association would suffer on Mr Penno's withdrawal from the executive. Mr Penno is leaving the district, and intnds to settle at Waikari. The Weather Palmerston and the surrounding district has experienced an unusually long spell of dry. warm weather. Welcome rain commenced to fall at noon yesterday. Its continuance for some 24 hours would be extremely beneficial to the farmers, gardeners, and fishing folk.
