A CHARGE OF LIBEL
THE ALBERTA CASE ACCUSED TO STAND TRIAL EDMONTON, Oct. 23. Unwin and Powell were committed for trial on a charge of libel. Senator A. W Griesbach, the complainant. was not called. Unwin denied writing the “ Bankers’ Toadies * pamphlet, and said he got it from Powell. The printers were paid from Government funds A previous message stated: Leaflets entitled “ Bankers’ Toadies,” bearing the names of nine prominent Government opponents, are in the possession of the Edmonton police following a search warrant raid on the offices of the Social Credit League. The names are followed by the words; “Exterminate them.” The raid was the result of a complaint to the magistrate that the leaflets were libellous Later Joseph Unwin. Government Whip in the Legislature, was arrested in connection with the seized “ Bankers’ Toadies" leafllets He reserved his plea, and was remanded for nine days on bail of 5000 dollars The charge was laid bv Senator Griesbach,
