FILL OUT THOSE HOLLOWS

BEFORE BEACH BATHING BEGINS Weather prophets tell us that we are to have an early summer, which means, for most of us, that before we know where we are, we shall be answering the invitation of sunny beaches, and probably considering the question of a new bather. Well, there is just one thing to re member. If you have any shortcomings of figure, now is the time to set about remedying them. Much is always being written for the girl who wishes to become slender, but the too-thin girl is rarely told what she can do to obtain a rounded chest and neck, and graceful, wellcovered limbs. Here, then, are a few hints for her alone; To begin at the beginning. What kind of a nervous system have you? If you get excited or depressed at the slightest provocation you must first learn to conquer that. Under-weight girls are usually highly-strung ones, and it is no use trying to put fat on them if they are too nervous to keep it on. But your nerves will soon get ever so much calmer if you eat better sleep better, and exercise more. For highly-nervous girls the secret of beauty-giving rest is to go to bed earlier. Late nights induce a restless sleep in which the body does not properly relax. So, if you want to put on weight, you must make up your mind to go to bed at 9 o’clock for three nights a week —and do so. Then, you must add to your diet some more fattening articles of food. This requires a little knowledge of dietetics, for just to load the digestion with extra fats has often the effect of upsetting the liver. It imbalances the diet. If you wish to eat more cream, butter, and milk—and nothing could be better —then you must also take more green salads and fruit juices. An ample and nourishing breakfast, including cream, is splendid for nervy subjects, but its benefit is increased enormously if you drink half a glass of tomato o- orange juice beforehand. Take a malt or cod-liver oil tonic and a cup of warm milk before going to bed. / Next, you must realise the importance of correct breathing for giving Sou a lovely rounded neck and chest, •octors point out that most hollowchested girls are mouth-breathers. This bad habit must be cured or those salt-cellars and sharp bones will never disappear. Get the habit of breathing as deeply as you can whenever you are out in the air. You may have a few minutes’ walk to tram or train each day, then make those few minutes bring you health and beauty by centering your whole attention on breathing. Breathe so as to fill your lungs to their utmost capacity, and then slowly force the air out through the mouth. Concentrate on making your normal breathing deeper, and you will gradually improve your health, figure, and complexion to an astonishing degree. Also, a few chest exercises done each morning before an open window will act like magic. , If you follow all these directions regularly for a month or so you will be surprised to find your chest becoming pretty and rounded, and measuring from two to three inches more. You will then be able to look forward to that new bathing suit and not dread it. Here is a simple exercise which is a great chest-developer:— Stand up straight and do the oldfashioned breaststroke as though you were swimming. Try to imagine that you are actually in the water, and put plenty of pep into the movement Breathe deeply and rhythmically with each stroke. Here is just one more exercise equally simple:— Stand erect and twirl each arm in turn, rapidly, backwards and forwards in a complete circle, as though you were bowling a ball. Just do this and

feel how it lifts and strengthens the muscles which support the bust. A beautiful figure can be achieved, no matter how thin you may be, but you must persevere. It is well worth the trouble, because everything you do to acquire it will greatly improve your health as well, and will give you a more graceful carriage and a fresher complexion.—Morning Herald.
