THE MONTAGUE SHOW
A CHARMINGLY DRESSED REVUE Dress, rather than undress, is a salient feature of the Montague Show, which opened its season on Saturday evening in His Majesty’s Theatre, and is attracting crowded audiences. There are examples of travelling costumes, evening dresses, and ship-board attire all in the latest fashion and in excellent taste, and, what is more, a bevy of handsome, healthy girls to wear them. The ballet, of course, appears in fancy dress. “Winter Time in Norway” gives the ballet a chance to wear white satin, silver lame, white fur, and sequins to advantage in a snow scene by moonlight, and supplies the contrast of short girls in short, full frocks and tall girls in long, full frocks, all gracefully worn. The can-can dancers look delightful in their characteristic costumes, and the ladies of the harem, with their unusual velvet cloaks, make some effective poses. Grace and taste characterise the gowns in “In Old Vienna.” There is much energetic dancing in the scenes where the ballet appears. The show is bright, amusing; pretty, clever, and pleasing, and contains some talented members.
