FISHERMEN’S PROTEST

DEMOLITION OF COTTAGES PETITION TO MINISTRY OF HEALTH LONDON, Oct. 22. (Received Oct. 24, at 6.30 p.m.) The Newlyn fishing boat arrived at Westminster and the fishermen were warmly welcomed by a crowd including a member of the House of Commons, Mr Beecham. The Minister of Health (Sir Kingsley Wood) entertained the crew at tea in the afternoon. Seven Newlyn fisherwomen are taking a petition to the Queen, protesting against the loss of their homes.

A previous message stated: Nine fishermen will set out on October 19 in a 50ft fishing boat from Newlyn, Cornwall. They are going to London to petition the Ministry of Health against the proposed demolition of their picturesque cottages at Newlyn Mousehole under the slum clearance order of the Penzance Council.
