SHUNTER SEVERELY, INJURED CAUGHT BETWEEN BOX WAGONS (Per United Press Association) CARTERTON, Oct'. 23. A railway porter, S. J. Laws, a single man, was severely injured during shunting operations at Featherston this morning. He was attending a rake of trucks and was caught between two box wagons. He suffered a compound fracture of the left arm*, a fractured wrist and internal injuries. After attention from Ur Sharp he was sent to Masterton Hospital. FATAL KICK FROM HORSE (Per United Press Association) WAIPUKURAU, Oct. 23. John Goulding, aged 19 years, died in the Waipukurau Hospital yesterday as the result of a kick from a horse at Elsthorpe on Thursday. The coroners verdict at an inquest held this morning was that death resulted from a perforated stomach and shock following a severe kick from a horse. DROWNED IN SHEEP DIP (Per United Press Association) WAIPUKURAU, Oct. 23, A four-year-old Maori boy named Waaka Kerika was drowned in a sheep dip at Mangaorapa yesterday. He disappeared while his mother was working in a wool shed. A verdict of accidentally drowned was returned at the inquest. MOTOR FATALITY INQUEST OPENED An inquest, for identification purposes only, was opened by the coroner (Mr A. W. Woodward) at Oamaru, into the death of Mr Terence R. S. Gaiger. of Grosvenor street, South Dunedin, whose name has been previously incorrectly reported as Gages, and who succumbed to injuries received in the motor smash at Maheno on Tuesday night. After evidence had been given by Mervyn Walter Gaiger, a brother of the deceased, the inquest was adjourned sine die. The slight improvement In the condition of the other man who was injured in the accident, Mr Philip Ruston, reported on Saturday morning, has been maintained, his condition being about the same. KNOCKED DOWN BY CAR ELDERLY WOMAN INJURED When alighting from a tram car at Playfair street, Caversham, on Saturday afternoon, Elizabeth Roberts, an elderly woman, of 179 Carroll street, was knocked down by a motor car. She was admitted to Hospital at 4.15 pm., when it was found that she was suffering from fractured ribs and abrasions. FALL FROM MOTOR CAR As a result of falling from a mqtor car near Ashburfon on Friday night while on her way to Dunedin, Annie Tabah, of 175 Antigua street, Christchurch, suffered abrasions about her legs and hands. Her injuries necessitated her admission to Hospital on Saturday morning. MOTOR ‘ CYCLIST INJURED Robert Coombs, a single man, residing at 55 Havelock street, was admitted to the Public Hospital at 6 p.m. yesterday suffering from lacerations of the left leg. He received the injuries when the motor cycle he was riding collided with a taxi at the corner of Cumberland and ' Hanover streets. CAR OVERTURNS INTO HARBOUR GIRL PINNED UNDERNEATH Skidding while taking a slight bend on the Portobello road near Waverley in the early hours of yesterday morning. a car containing two persons capsized into the harbour, landing upside down on a shingly beach. The driver of the vehicle. Nelson Mons Hedges, was thrown clear, but the passenger, a young woman named Clancy Strak. who resides at 73 Melville street, was pinned underneath. She was extricated by Hedges and a passing motorist and was taken to the Dunedin Hospital, suffering from internal injuries and shock. Her condition is not serious.
