NOTES AND COMMENTS ’ The following table tennis players have been selected to represent Otago against a Southland team at’ .the Y.M.C.A. next Saturday night;—Messrs Miller, G. Ciaridge, Brown, Laidlaw, Pollock, Stanton, Misses Bennett, Lock, M. Fogarty, J. Anderson, Davis, Guy. The results of this, fnatch should prove interesting as the majority of the players will be entering for the South Island championships. At the Management Committee meeting held last week it was decided that the South Island championships be held in the Y.M.C.A., and that entries for same close on July 19. The following committee was elected to arrange all tournament matters:—Messrs J. H. Miller, R. A. Guy, J. Baker, and H; N. Ballinger. The Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, and Junior Boys’ Singles events are to consist of the best of three games, 21 up advantage,, and the final to be'the best of five games. The other events will consist of the best of three games, 21 up advantage,.including the finals. The results of the last matches of the first round in the A Grade show Dunedin and Y.M.D. leading, with six points each.. Y.M.D. registered a win against Friends 20— 12. Harrop struck his old form, winning all his games. Everson continued to show good results, losing a game each to M. and W. Friend. Dunedin trounced Pioneer 25 —7. Brown, for Dunedin, lost games to Douglas and Martindale, Hall to Johnson, abd Stanton lost both games to Douglas and one each to Martindale and Johnson. St. Clair won by 27 points from Y.M.C.A. The losers were again without the services of Dunbar, and the substitute. Pitkethley, won no games. Miller again won all his games, while Boyd won three and Pollock five. The outstanding players for St. Clair were Ramsay and Algie, who, when on form, are in the first flight of local players. Algie is only 16, and left-handed, and has every possibility of winning the South Island Junior Boys’ Championship. In the B Grade, Bennetts had a narrow win over St, Clair 17 —15, thus still retaining their lead of one point over Dunedin. Locomotive registered a narrow win by 22 points over South End I. The two leaders in the C Grade, Residents and Bennetts, each had wins over Chevrolet I 30—2, and Chevrolet II 27—5 respectively. With one night to play in the first round of the Ladies’ Grade DS.A I is leading with eight points arid Pioneer next with seven points. Pioneer, however, has one game to play, which it should win without difficulty. So the winner of the first round will really be decided on the last night’s play when D.S.A. I meets Pioneer. The present placings on the association’s Singles ladder are:—Messrs Miller, Stanton, G. Ciaridge, Pollock, Harrop, Hall, Barclay, Brown, H. Ciaridge, S. Everson, C. Ciaridge. The Doubles ladder placings are:—Messrs C and G. Ciaridge, Martindale and Cole, Stanton and Brown, Harrop and Barclay Laidlaw and Pollock, Smyth and Hart, Everson and Ciaridge, Dobson and Hall.
