THE PORTOBELLO-CAPE SAUNDERS ROAD

TO THE EDITOR

Sir.—Evidently your correspondent "Another Resident" is labouring under a ; great misapprehension regarding the affairs of our settlement. First. I would point out that as yet we have not received £4 per week, and are in no position to collect anv surplus for our pockets, as we are still on probation here, and are quite likely to be so for some time yet. It was with amusement that we read of his references to mud and early rising. If "Another Resident" cares to,come along I would personally be more than delighted to conduct him over our concrete paths, leading from house to all outhouses, with much more than 18 inches of mud to paddle through." One almost senses an undercurrent of personal grievance for which an oii'M has been provided by the trouble cpused by the slip on the road. I must p'-o refer to his uncalled-for remarks regarding Mr Munro and Dr M'Millan We were a'l residents here under the previous Government, and are not Communists, as "Another Resident' would describe us; would that he were ns truthful in his statements as Dr M'Millan. whom I personally regard p 3 a gentleman. I suggest to "Another Besident" that he should always be cure he knows exactly what is correct before he makes any statements in

public. If all he said were correct, what a lovely life of luxury would be ours, with Christmas bonuses included. —I am, etc., Just a Spoonfed s Wife. Cape Saunders, June 20.
