NEW ZEALAND HOCKEY TEAM TARANAKI VENTS GRIEVANCE (Per UmTEtf Press Association) ELTHAM, June 22. Strong objection to the method of selection of the New Zealand hockey team to tour Australia was voiced at a meeting of the Taranaki Hockey Association- last night, and a motion recording the protest was adopted. It was stated by Mr N. O. Ebbett that of the 16-players chosen 11 represented city associations. Neither of Taranaki's nominees was selected, and yet this province was regarded as one of the strongest hockey centres in the Dominion. Taranaki met and defeated Wellington on three occasions, and during each of the past three seasons had toured, suffering only one loss. When the All-India team visited New Zealand in 1935 Taranaki had put up the best performance of the tour/ although: the visiting eleven included eight Olympic representatives. Mr Ebbett moved, that a protest be recorded on behalf of all country players, and not Taranaki solely. While members did not know .the capabilities of the selected players, it appeared that preference was shown for the nominees of the major associations, said the president, the Rev. J. A. Ryburn.
