COMMITTEE'S DISCUSSIONS NEW ZEALAND'S REQUESTS (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, June 21. (Received June 22, at 5.5 p.m.) The Australian Associated Press understands that the discussions of the Shipping Committee are now centred around the working conditions of crews on subsidised ships The Now Zealand delegates insist that the companies cannot expect a subsidy to be unaccompanied by some form of control. They must accept the New Zealand standard of fair treatment of labour, including matters of wages, hours and workins conditions.
The New Zealand representatives do not insist on a Government representative on the directorate, though they believe that it might be advantageous, and they consider ihaf the final agreement should embodv watertight clauses, ensuring that labour will receive a fair deal Mr Nash plans to leave England on his return to New Zealand early in July, and an agreement may be reached by the end of June.
