RICCARTON TRACK NOTES

SOUTHLAND HORSES ARRIVE (Special to Daily Times) CHRISTCHURCH, Juno 21. A number of horses arrived at Riccarlon this morning from Invercargill, and they will remain until after the Grand National meeting. Mr W E. Hazlett is in charge of three of the newcomers which lie and his brother own. They are Hunting Go, Golden Lap and Signaller. It is probable that Hunting Go will be schooled later in Ihe week as a preliminary to the Steeplechase at Ashburton on Saturday. The other pair have had plenty of hurdle racing lately, so they will have an easy time for a few days. They may bo nominated for Trentham. The steeplechaser Black Banner also made the trip to Riccarton under the care of Mr Hazlett, who will look after the gelding until his trainer arrives in about a week. Black Banner may be raced at Trentham. Amclita, a member of the team of S’. W. Ellis at Invercargill arrived with the other Southland horses, and A. S. Ellis will look after her until the close of the Grand National meeting She will compete in some f the fiat races.

Still another southerner. Double Shot, also came lo Canterbury, but was dropped off at Washdyke, where E. J. Ellis will have charge of him. Ho is to be schooled over hurdles, a department in which he has already shown some proficiency in preliminary efforts before leaving homo. Several of the local jumping brigade did some useful schooling this morn-

ing. Conception went over four hurdles, giving a good display, with the pace turned on for the last two. This mare and her sister. Chaste, are a promising pair.

J. B. Pearson’s Robespierre gelding wen well when ridden over the two pony hurdles, followed by one of the bigger obstacles.

S. Barr schooled two of his team. Giggleswick went over two hurdles, Redolent following over four. Their displays were attractive. Master Reynard was sent three times over the two pony hurdles, which he jumped in good style. He may be schooled over the big hurdles later in the week, and probably he will compete in hurdle races at the Waimate and South Canterbury Hunt meetings. High Speed has rejoined the stable of A. S. Ellis. He looks in good health after his sojourn at New Brighton, where he has had a few weeks of exercise on the beach. He still sports a leg, however, and he may not stand up to much hard work, though he has been nominated for the Wellington meeting, where he may go well if he keeps sound, as he is partial to a soft track. Full Throttle was lame when ne cooled ort after his work on Saturday, and it looks as if A. S. Ellis will find it necessary to give him a spell. R. Coveny was a visitor to the track this morning, and was welcomed by many friends. He has been training at Blenheim for some time, but he has decided to take out a jockey's licence again and to make his headquarters at Riccarton. He was formerly a prominent rider at Riccarton prior to an accident a few years ago.
