Saturday, June 19. (Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS Charged with drunkenness, John M'Dowall was fined 20s, in default seven days' imprisonment.—Similarly charged, Albert Percival Ritchie was fined a like amount with an alternative of 48 hours' imprisonment. REMAND GRANTED

White appeared, was charged with being intoxicated while in charge of a motor car. —Mr White said that his client intended to plead not guilty, and asked for a remand until June 27.~-The remand was granted, bail being allowed in the accused's own recognisance of £25, and a condition imposed that he does not drive a motor car in the meantime. Cyril Leslie Christensen pleaded guilty to being drunk in charge of a motor vehicle. —Senior Sergeant Packer stated that on the evening of June 18 Traffic Inspector Cameron saw the accused's car travelling slowly down Princes street. He saw the car pull into the kqrbing on the left side of the road, the wheel mounting the footpath. When the accused was brought to the Police Station he was found to be intoxicated.— " This offence is becoming all too prevalent," his Worship remarked.—The accused was fined £2O, medical expenses (£1 Is), and his licence was suspended for a period of 12 months. White appeared, was charged with having assaulted a woman.—Chief Detective ' Young, applying for a short remand, stated that the accused lived in a crib near Portobello, and had a woman keeping house for him. On Friday evening, he went home drunk, and, finding that his housekeeper was not in, he went to the complainant's home to look for her. The complainant's husband told him that she was not there, whereupon the accused assaulted him, and then attacked the wife, whom he kicked in the stomach. Drink was apparently the accused's trouble and the people residing in the neighbourhood were in fear of him.—A remand until Wednesday was granted, bail being allowed in the accused's own recognisance of £25. and one surety of a like amount.
