AUCKLAND TO WELLINGTON RECORD TIME ESTABLISHED (Per United Press Association; AUCKLAND, June 19. The conditions were perfect when the Union Airways monoplane Kuaka left Mangere at !) o'clock to-day on a test flight to Wellington. Wi'th the morning sunshine gleaming on her silver wingspread the plane rose rapidly and disappeared in a southerly direction. On the return flight this afternoon stops were made at Palmerston North and New Plymouth. The passenger guests of the company to-day were Wing-commander T. M. Wilkes (director of civil aviation), Dr M. A. Barnett (Wellington), Mr P. Maurice Clarke (manager of the Union Airways), Mrs Clarke, Mr E. A. Gibson (aerodrome engineer. Public Works Department), and three press representatives. The plane was in charge of the company's chief pilot, Commander B. A. Blythe, with Commander C. M. Duthie as co-pilot. The plane left Auckland at 9.10 a.m. for Wellington direct, and arrived at Rongotai Aerodrome at 11.15 a.m.—the record time of 2hr smin.
