ERNEST DRAKE CHOIR
INTERESTING CHORAL RECITAL An interesting feature of the recital by the Ernest Drake Student Choir in the Town Hall Concert Chamber on Monday next is the inclusion in the supporting programme of soloists of manv artists comparatively new to the Dunedin public. These have been selected from the younger members of the choir, and should all prove worthy of inclusion in any programme of musical merit. In addition there will also appear one or two of- Dunedin’s firm favourites whose absence would be regretted by many supporters of this popular choir. The supporting programme is attrac-
tively arranged in the form of duets and trios in conjunction with solo items which should have an appeal to all sections of the audience. Among the new- names which will appear on the programme are Misses Ethel Hadficld, Rena Roche, Isa Duff, Melba Wilson, Valda M'Curdy, Ada Allen, and Robert Wilson, the balance of the evening’s entertainment being in the capable hands of Misses Mary Pratt, Avho is well known and highly regarded throughout New Zealand, Bertha Rawlinson, Melba Trophy winner, Aileen Young. Dora Drake, and Angela Hendry, and on the male side Mr Lex Macdonald, whose inclusion is the response to numerous requests by those who heard his debut as a baritone at the last recital, Mr Jim M'Fariane, Mr Leslie Dunbar, and Mr Alf Jeavons. The instrumentalists of the evening will be Miss Ethel Wallace, the brilliant Dunedin violinist, who will be associated with Miss,Mary Pratt and the choir in the presentation of the major work of the evening, the “ Seraphic Song ” of Anton Rubinstein. The box plan arrangements arc as advertised.
