WRESTLING

COX V. SPELLMAN ’ “King Kong” Cox, who is to be John Spellman’s opponent in the wrestling match at the Town Hall to-night, is recognised wherever wrestling is discussed as one of the unost formidable performers who have ever entered a wrestling ring. A pupil of the great Farmer Burns, he has much of the famous ex-middle-weight champion’s skill, plus strength, weight, and fighting spirit. When Cox embarked upon his wrestling career about seven years ago he was purely an orthodox performer, but since then he has become famous through the use of a style of attack which never fails to arouse the greatest excitement among the spectators, and which makes him a man to be feared by bis opponents. Cox has had title matches with Lewis, Londos, Browning, and Shikat, and he considers that, if he keeps on trying long enough, he will wear the championship crown some day. He is reported to have said that his opening bout with Spellman at Auckland, which he won by a fall, the only one secured in the match, was as hard as he wanted, but he figured that he could face the return bout with sufficient confidence. Spellman, it is said, is equally sure that he will be able to reverse the result, and everything points to a really great contest.
