"WILDFLOWER"
HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE Excellent entertainment for Show Week crowds is provided by the Dunedin Operatic Society's production of " Wildflower," the bright and tuneful musical comedy, which is now running at Hisj Majesty's Theatre. Large and enthusiastic audiences have enjoyed the production since its opening last Saturday,, and it is certain to draw a great many more people during the remainder of the season. The singing is probably the most important feature of a show such as "Wildflower," and in this respect the society is fortunate in having as leading lady Miss Freda Elmes, who makes a thorough success of her part, her attractive voice finding ample scope in the many solo and ensemble numbers in which she is heard. Playing opposite Miss Elmes, Mr Arthur Lungley achieves a distinct success, which is attributable probably in equal measure to his singing and his acting. Mr Stan Lawson and Mr Richard Murphy have the principal comedy parts, which they sustain with telling effect, and they receive notable assistance from Miss Sybil Thomson, who contributes a thoroughly amusing characterisation. Others prominent in the cast are Mr Roy Herbert, Miss Louise Henderson and Mr Roy M'Dougall. The ballet and the chorus are responsible. for a great deal of attractive work, which is enhanced by the uniformly high standard of staging and frocking. The orchestra, under Mr G. E. Wilkinson, does its part well. "Wildflower" will be presented each night this week, with a matinee performance on Saturday.
