OBITUARY
MR H. L D. WEST (Per United Press Association) TAURANGA, May 31. The death occurred suddenly on Saturday of Mr H. L. D. West, an architect. The cause of death was heart failure. Born at Timaru 50 years ago, and a son of Mr Daniel West, a wellknown architect of the Canterbury Education Board, Mr West was educated at Timaru, where he qualified as an architect. He was interested in polo and hunting, was a member of the Pareora Polo Club and the South Canterbury Hunt Club, and was also a gentlemah rider. He rode in many events at the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meetings. Twenty-two years ago Mr West went to Whakatane and later to Tauranga. He was interested in aviation, making many professional trips in his own plane. At the time of his death Mr West was architect for the borough and also for the Bay of Plenty Racing Club. He is survived by his widow.
