WAITAKI OLD BOYS

DUNEDIN BRANCH MR A. B. ARMOUR ELECTED CHAIRMAN At the annual meeting of the Dunedin branch of the Waitaki High School Old Boys’ Association last night, Mr L. Hudson was in the chair. Moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet (as previously published), the chairman stated that the year had been a satisfactory one. Providing members supported the functions arranged during the year, the association should continue to prosper. Mr G. W. Ferens said that the association need not worry over the losses on the social functions. He expressed pleasure at the state of the finances and thanked members of the committee for the good work they had done during the year. The report and balance sheet were adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS The election of officers resulted as follows:-—Chairman, Mr A. B. Armour; honorary secretary, Mr J. F. Hamilton; assistant secretary, Mu’ F. Kerr; Country Committee—Messrs J. Blakeley (Patearoa), H. Tonkin (Ettrick). D. Bews (Millers’ Flat); Town Committee—Messrs J. E, Matheson, N. Y. Wales, W. Ferens, J. M. Paape, A. T. Francis, D. M. Hunter, S. D. Smith, L. A. Fisher; honorary auditor. Mr J. H. Redmond. GENERAL It was decided to forward a remit to the head branch in Oamaru, for the purpose of altering the rules to make the immediate past president an ex officio member of the branch committee for the 12 months immediately succeeding his period of office. The parent association suggested that this year Founders’ Day should coincide with the day of the school sports, providing it was a Saturday. The suggested date was October 16. Mr Matheson said that last year’s function had been an unqualified success and he suggested that Founders’ Day should be held in October, but not in conjunction with sports day.—-The suggestion met with the approval of members and it was decided to advise the parent association accordingly. As a further recommendation it was decided to suggest that a dinner in addition to a dance be held on Founders’ Day. * WAITAKI v. 0.8.H.5. With reference to the annual Rugby football and cricket matches between Waitaki and Otago Boys’ High School, it was decided to write to Mr F. Milner (rector of Waitaki Boys’ High School) asking his permission for the committee to wait on the Otago High School Old Boys’ Association, with a viev to forming a combined deputation to wait on Mr H. P. Kidson (rector of the Otago Boys’ High School) in an endeavour to have these fixtures reinstated. Mr E. Aslin mentioned that he: had spoken to several members of the Otago High School Old Boys’ Association and had learned that they were in favour of the games being reinstated.
