FLYING-OFFICER LLEWELLYN ARRIVAL AT THE CAPE CAPETOWN, May 28. Flying-officer Llewellyn has arrived. He hopes to leave at dawn on Saturday. He is confident of breaking the Cape to London record. FORCED TO RETURN CAPETOWN, May 29. (Received May 30, at 10 p.m.) Flying Officer Llewellyn was forced to return to Capetown owing to compass trouble after starting at 5.23 a.m. (local time) in an attempt to break the Cape-London record. A GLIDING RECORD BERLIN, May 30. (Received May 30, at 10.15 p.m.) Ernst Jachtmann, a gliding instructor, glided for 40 hours 45 minutes—a world record. MRS EARHART'S PLANS MIAMI, May 29. (Received May 30, at 10 p.m. - * Mrs Earhart announced that she hoped to restart her world flight tomorrow or Tuesday, but is reversing the route in order to encounter more favourable weather. Mr Noonan. the navigator, will accompany her for the entire journey. The stages will include San Juan, Puerto Rico. Paramaribo, Dutch Guiana, Natal. Dakar, Aden, Karachi, Port Darwin. Howland Island, Honolulu, and Oakland. IMPERIAL AIR ROUTES LONDON, May 29. (Received May 30, at 10 p.m.) Sir Archdale Parkhill presided at the first meeting of the Civil Air Communications Committee, the proceedings of which were largely confined to reviewing the progress of Imperial air routes. One of the committee's main problems is expansion of foreign airlines, especially to South and the Pacific. It is hoped that the conclusions of the conference will contribute to Empire lines taking an equally prominent place. FLYING BOAT RECORD ROME, May 28. (Received May 30, at 10 p.m.) The airman Mario Stoppani, with three companions, claims the world's record for flying boats, having averaged 308.244 miles an hour over 5000 kilometres.
