SHOT BY HIS SUCCESSOR
FORMER POLICE CHIEF SWEETHEART'S SUICIDE LONDON, May 28. The Daily Mail's Warsaw correspondent learns that M. Yagoda was last night fatally shot in his cell at Moscow by his successor, M. Yegov. M. Yagoda was given the opportunity to commit suicide, but refused. M. Yagoda's former sweetheart, the actress Wanda Fosendorf, tried to see him earlier. She was recognised, upon which she drew out a revolver and shot herself.
M. Yagoda was head of the secret police until last September, and appeared all-powerful. He was dismissed on April 4 as a preliminary to a trial for " criminal activity."
