AMATEUR CYCLING
CALDER MACKAY RACE The Dunedin Amateur Cycling Club held the second race at the Calder Mackay series on Saturday afternoon, the course being from Logan Park to Burkes and return. A large field of .?b riders faced the starter (Mr H. R. Greenfield). The competitors were split up into seven -bunches, the limit men being S.' Murray, G. Tate, and N. Macdonald, who were on the six-min-ute mark. The rest of the riders were sent away at intervals of one minute until the scratch men—A. Fletcher, W. Chalmers and G. Homer—left. The first to reach the turn were Murray and Macdonald, followed a little later by G. Tate, M, M'Lachlan and L. Shand. Wilson and Powley led the four-minute bunch at the turn, "being Imin 20sec behind the first men to IUTO'" The. threci-minute men also turned together a little later. The twomlriuto bunch, led by Boyd, were riding'■'.;slowly at the turn, and had not nis'da up much time, while the shortlimit, men, with Umbers, Hobbs, and Sivertsen going well, had gained a fair amount til time. The scratch men turned together, but Fletcher was dropped soon after. The competitors stayed in much the same order until the finish, Murray beating Macdonald over the line by about 50 yards, then followed L. Shand, M'Lachlan, A. Wilson, and S. Scoles. The referee was Mr',?. Fletcher, while Mr H. W. Laws assisted '-with the time keeping. Owing to a misunderstanding the turn was not at the proper place: and conseuuently tha distance was 8. little shorter than that which was intended. The following were the results:—S. Murray (6min) 1, N. Macdonald (6min) 2 L. Shand (smin) 3, M. M'Lachlan (omin) 4, A. Wilson (4mirj) 5, S. Scoles (4min) 6. Fastest times: G. Homer (scr) 15min 45sec. W. Chalmers (scr) 15min 40sec, A. Umber's (lmin 15sec) 15min 51sec. W. Sivertsen (lmin 15sec) lomin 54sec, F. Hobbs (lmin 15scc) 15min 56sec. The leaders for the Calder Mackay Cup are M. M'Lachlan 7 points. L. Bell. G. Homer, and L. Murray 6.
