ADVERTISING AND BUSINESS SOCIETY
WEEKLY MEETING The Dunedin Young Men's Advertising and Business Society held its weekly meeting in the Chamber of Commerce rooms. Mr R. C. Wilson presided, and the business of the society was quickly dealt with. A surprise for members was the visit of Mr Bills, who took an active part in the discussions of the society. Mr Bills gave a short address to members entitled "Shall We Develop a Personality or an Impersonality? " " Personality," Mr Bills said, was not fully understood by many people, and in some cases socalled personality amounted to what was called a swelled head. Impersonality should be developed by everyone. This simply meant not pushing oneself into the limelight. It was doing one's allotted job to the best of one's ability and helping
any person under one to do his job. The domineering man was not looked upon with the same respect by.his subordinates as was the man who co-operated with them and was able to see their viewpoints of any situation or difficulty. Suggestions from employees went a long way towards the prosperity and advancement of any business. Organisation was an essential part of a business and if the employees would cooperate and take a personal interest in their employment it would help considerably in bettering their position. Mr J. Baker read a chapter from Herbert N. Casson's book, "Success and Happiness." which provided much material for discussion. Members were grateful for the assistance of Mr Bills, who was frequently called upon to settle an argument between them on various parts of the chapter and to explain some of the more difficult questions. Mr Bills was accorded a vote of thanks.
