CENTRE EXECUTIVE MEETS A meeting of the executive of the Dunedin Bowling Centre was held on Saturday night, and was attended by Messrs J. H. Hinton (president), T. Smith, H. Rowley, W. Connor, J. Forster, E. Longworth. W. J. Thompson. S. Devereux. W. D. Richards, G. A. Nelson, J. G. Butler, J. J. Davis, C. M'Donald. W. Dryden, J. Barrowman. A. Cork, and F. J. Campbell. Advice that the Portobello Club had been granted affiliation to the New Zealand Bowling Association was received. The letter from the association also stated that the proposed colours were not approved, and the club was invited to choose another colour and submit it for approval. The chairman presented the framed certificate that is awarded to the club whose rink wins the Adess Shield competition, to Mr Colin M'Donald, the representative of the North-East Valley Club. Both he and Mr M'Donald paid a tribute to the ability of the late Mr W. W. Kirkwood. who skipped the winning rink Mr G. A. Nelson forwarded the balance of the testing records for Dunedin. "It will be noticed that the number of bowls tested this season is not very large," his letter stated, " due probably to the amount of moisture we have had." Correspondence between the centre and Mr W. M. Horton, of the Greens Research Committee, to the New Zealand Golf Association and supervisor and advisory officer to clubs, was read. --The chairman reported that the committee appointed to consider Mr Horton's series of inspections of greens and advice, would soon have a' recommendation lo make.—Members commented that clubs which had availed themselves of Mr Horton s advice had already received full value for the fee. The greens which had been treated by Mr Horton's formula were showing outstanding strikes of grass, it was said. • The chairman and several members spoke appreciatively of the services given to the centre by its secretary (Mr R. Hanning), and the meeting decided to grant him a bonus of £<Jo. It was decided to hold the annual meeting on Saturday. July 31. The executive officers of the centre were deputed to arrange an entertainment programme for delegates to the annual meeting of the association al Dunedin in July. A motion to appoint a sub-Com-mittee to inquire into the possibilities of establishing indoor rinks was defeated, members considering that tms was not a subject for the executive The meeting ot the executive was preceded by a special meeting of delegates to record votes for the seven non-official members of the council, of the New Zealand Bowling Association representative of the South Island.
