Soapbark, to be purchased for a few pence from any chemist, will clean suits and dresses. Boil about threepennyworth of the soapbark in one pint of water, strain the liquid, and, when cold, apply with brush until lather appears. Wipe over with clean, damp cloth and hang out to dry. * * * Keep a box of boracic powder in baby's nursery basket. Made into a lotion with glycerine and water, it is splendid for remedying trouble with the mouth or gums, and, mixed with starch and zinc powders, makes a good dusting powder for the body. It also finds many other uses in the home. * * #, To prevent the darns in woollen socks and stockings shrinking in the wash and pulling more holes around the darns, hold the skein or card of wool in the steam of a boiling kettle and so shrink the wool before using. * * * Dissolve a handful of washing soda in a bucket of warm water and throw over the coal. It will then last longer. * * * To make a polishing cloth purchase one ounce of rock ammonia from your chemist, crush to a fine powder and add sufficient milk to cover the piece of soft linen cloth chosen for the purpose. Bring to the boil then quickly lift out the cloth and plunge into co.d water, wring out and dry „s quickly as possible. This cloth can be used many limes before it needs to be retreatcd in the same way.
