NOTES FROM RICCARTON

(Special to Dailx Times) CHRISTCHURCH, May 28. Mr Donald Grant, the well-known South Canterbury breeder and owner, has had his horses trained at Washdyke in the past, but he has decided on a change, and they are to be prepared at Riccarton in future. D. Cotton visited Timaru yesterday, when arrangements were made for him to take charge of some horses for Mr Grant, and five of them are expected to arrive at Riccarton to-morrow. The team will consist of Kinnoull, Elloughton Lad, and three one of them being Kinnoull's sister. Kinnoull, now four years old, showed good form as a three-year-old, but when sent to Sydney in the spring he did not train on, so he did not remain away long. He has done some work since he returned home,-but he has not yet been raced. Elloughton Lad, a colt' by Pink Coat, is a Derby candidate, while the three yearlings are all from Mr Grant's own stud. J. S. Shaw returned home after he raced his twd horses,at the Waikato meeting to give an eye. to his home team for a few days, but he will go north again to-morrow night, as Pahu and Greek Gold will be racing at the Auckland meeting, which will be started next Saturday. Only three members •of the team are in strong work at" present. Primak is very forward, and probably will; be raced at;Greymouth next month. Matoru, following a spell, is gradually getting back to good condition, and is being got ready for engagements at the Grand National meeting in August, when Mr H. D. Greenwood s. two-year-old Rionscup filly Moonraker, purchased in Sydney at Easter, may also be in action.
