CANTERBURY PARK TROTS POSTPONED

(Special xq Daily Times) CHRIStCHURCH, May 28. The Canterbury Park Trotting Club's meeting, which scheduled for tomorrow, has betyn postponed, for a week. This morining the Addington track was not iri a .fit state to race on. At noon the [caretaker was hopeful of getting it into fair condition for the meeting, but ft 3.34 p.m; the committee decided noi to hold the meeting. A staff was busy to-day carting new and dry soil andt spreading it on the worst parts of the J course. Heavy trucks were used this aiternoon to bind the soil. Should it rain next week the officials may then Jconsider transferring the meeting to the ; . New Brighton Club's course. Several npsons walked round

the Addington course this morning and were unanimous that it was not safe to race. On the extreme outside the track was fairly good, but a strip about five feet wide along the centre of the complete course was a bog. Parts of the inside portion were quite firm, and the bends for about three sulky widths from the inside fence provided safe footing, but a furlong down the back straight was dangerous. It was simply a clay bog, and the horses' feet went in to the extent of six and in places seven inches. Several horses were driven over it this morning and one or two of them broke badly and nearly fell. It is this part of the course that is receiving hurried attention.
