COOK ISLANDS FRUIT
FIRST SHIPMENT OF SEASON PLENTIFUL SUPPLIES OF ORANGES (Special ro Daily Times!) AUCKLAND, May 28. The first shipment of fruit from Cook Islands this season and f;he first consignment to be made under the Government's system to foster imports from the group, arrived at Auckland by the motor ship Limerick. There were 8500 cases of oranges, grapefruit, mandarins and lemons on board, 3400 of these cases being for the local market. This shipment is expected to ensure plentiful supplies of oranges for the Auckland public within the next few days, especially since the Mariposa is expected to bring 1000 cases of Californian oranges when she arrives from Sydney on Monday, this consignment having been overcarried when the vessel called at Auckland several days ago. All the fruit carried by the Limerick opened up in good condition, and it is to be distributed through the recognised channel of fruit brokers throughout the Dominion and sold to retailers at prices fixed by the Government on * commission basis.
