Sir Louis Barnett, of Hampden, is at present on a visit to Dunedin. Mr W. Easton was a passenger for Wellington by the through express yesterday. Mr A. R. M'Elwain was a passenger for Christchurch by the mid-day express yesterday. Mr W. J. Morrell. chancellor of the Otago University, was a passenger for Wellington by the mid-day express yesterday. Haigh, who has been in charge of the Invercargill branch of Associated Motorists Petrol Company, Ltd., has been appointed to the position of sales manager at the company's head office in Wellington. Sincere congratulations were extended at last night's meeting of the Otago Hospital Board to Miss E. P. Tennent, matron of the Dunedin Hospital, upon whom the honour of M.B.E. had been bestowed by his Majesty the King. Messrs R, Plarrison and Bryan O'Donnell, who are acting as assessors in an industrial dispute relating to labourers in the boroughs, town boards, river boards, and electric power boards of Southland, Otago, Canterbury, and Marlborough, left by the through express yesterday to attend a sitting of the Conciliation Council in Christchurch.

The congratulations of the Olago Hospital Board were extended last night to Messrs J. W. Dove (chairman), A. F. Quelch, and M. Silverstone upon the bestowal on them of the King's Coronation medal. Similar congratulations were extended to Miss R. M. Every, matron of the Batchelor Hospital, who had also received a medal.

At last night's meeting of the Otago Hospital Board Dr W. Newlands referred to the fact that the chairman (Mr J. W. Dove) had been promoted from the position of honorary serving brother of the Venerable Order of St. John- of Jerusalem to that of officer brother. A motion was passed congratulating Mr Dove on his promolion.

The Union Airways liner Kotuku left the Taieri airport at 8.15 yesterday for Christchurch, Blenheim and Palmerston North with Messrs G. Goldsmith and S. E. Mair for Christchurch. and Mr T. Whelan and Mrs H. and Master N. Whelan for Palmerston North. The Korimako arrived from the north at 1 p.m. with Mr Lee M. Hill from Palmerston North.

Mr A.. Robertson, assistant supervisor of the. money order and savings bank branch of the Chief Post 'Office, Christchurch, has been elected unopposed to represent the officers of the postal branch, and Mr G. A. Wilkes, supervisor of the telegraph branch. Oamaru, was re-elected unopposed to represent the officers of the telegraph branch on the Post and Telegraph Appeal Board. They will hold office for three years.
