MONEY FOR BUSINESS
AMERICAN BANKS’ ATTITUDE MR. MORGENTHAU’S CRITICISM WASHINGTON, Feb. 16. Testifying before the House Appropriations Committee, Mr Morgenthau criticised the banks’ failure to lend money for business instead of investing it in Government bonds He said there was every incentive for banks to get business in their own communities. “ I was never asked to buy Government securities,” he said. Later, following conferences with Government officials, Mr Morgenthau said a definite plan for dealing with the inflow of capital gold from foreign countries would be an nounced within a few days.
