SONGSTER SURPRISE PARTY

FUNCTION AT SALVATION ARMY CITADEL A Songster Surprise Party evening was held in the Dowling Street Citadel on Tuesday evening, when an appreciative audience gave its support to the various items rendered. Adjutant and Mrs V. J. Dick acted as host and hostess. The stage was decorated to represent a large drawing room. The members of the Songster Brigade were present, under the baton of Mr William Baylis. After greetings and introductions were given, the party entered into chorus part-singing which rhymned into a round effect the harmony of which was delightful. During the evening the Songster Brigade contributed vocal numbers:—“ Follow the Flag,” “The Saviour’s Name.” and "Praise My Soul.” Other vocal numbers were contributed by the Male Voice Party. Messrs Millard, W. Carey. H Millard, and Handcocks; Bandmaster Millard’s family: own composition, selected: Mr W. Carey, vocal colo; instrumental items: Mrs C. Brown, pianoforte solo; Mr W. Carey, saw solo; Mr H. Millard, cornet solo; Messrs W. Carey and Handcocks. cornet and trombone duet and monologue, Miss J. Pryde. Birthday honours for the month of February included Major Elford, Adjutant V. J. Dick, Songster Leader William Baylis, Sergeant Mrs Joss, and Sister Mrs Barnes.
