GOLDEN WEDDING CELEBRATIONS About 200 guests, relatives and friends gathered together in the hall at Macandrew Bay to celebrate the golden jubilee of the wedding of Mr and Mrs A. E. Gibson. The nail had been artistically decorated with flags, gold tinsel, golden dahlias, chrysanthemums, golden gleam and maidenhair fern, whilst in the centre of it all hung a golden bell all arranged under the capable supervision of Mr J. Niven A two-tier cake decorated with goldcoloured icing, flowers, ribbon and lettering was outstanding on one of the tables, suitably set for the occasion. After the singing of the National Anthem Mr Brookmaq, filling the roll of chairman, made suitable remarks. Grace was said by the Rev. Canon Small. , The toast of the evening, "Mr and Mrs Gibson—Their Jubilee,” was proposed by Mr Brookman, other speakers being Mr P. Neilson, M.P., and Mrs MTntyre (the only other representative of the company at the wedding on February 12, 1887. Greetings from the members of the different clubs and bodies to which Mr and Mrs. Gibson belong were conveyed to them by the Rev. W. W. MacArthur (Douglas Credit Social Club), Mrs Brookman (Women’s Institute) Mr Free (Ratepayers’ Association), Mr Riddell (Card Club). Mr Rowlands (Boating Club), Mr Yates (Regatta Committee) and Mr Blair (School). Mr and Mrs Gibson replied. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne ” and musical honours for the happy couple brought a memorable evening to a close. Mrs Gibson was dressed in a handsome gown of golden shot panne velvet relieved with primrose, and carried a bouquet of golden roses. Mrs W.
