PROGRESS AT CONFERENCE

(Received Feb. 7, at 9 p.m.) Repeated telephonic intervention by President Roosevelt saved the motor strike conference from collapsing. Governor Murphy said that some progress had been made when he announced an adjournment till tomorrow. Sub-committees have been appointed to meet to-night and study the various questions involved. The president is reported to have persuaded General Motors officials to remain when twice they were ready

to quit. Judge Gadola, of Flint, signed a wri + to arrest all strikers, pickets, oF f rs and organisers of the union for contempt of court. The sheriff asked Governor Murphy for military help to make the arrests, but Governor Murphy indicated that he would oppose the arrests until the conference ends. The sheriff said he would take no action to-night.

OUTLOOK NOT HOPEFUL DETROIT, Feb. 6. (Received Feb. 7, at 11 p.m.) Only President Roosevelt’s telephone messages again kept the Motor Strike Conference alive during the day, in which nothing was accomplished. It will meet again on Monday in what is believed to be the final session. If there is failure to agree again it is believed that General Motors are ready to force the evacuation of the strikers.
