WAIPAWA FROM LONDON

ARRIVAL AT PORT CHALMERS SEVERAL DAYS AHEAD OF ) SCHEDULE Originally scheduled to reach Port Chalmers next Thursday, from London via Suva, the Shaw, Savill and Albion motor ship Waipawa, arrived off the Otago Heads at 11 a.m. yesterday and berthed at the George street wharf, Port Chalmers, at 12.30 p.m. The Waipawa left London on January 1, and the complete voyage occupied 37 days. Apart from one day in the English Channel, when the weather was decidedly rough, good conditions were encountered throughout. When approaching the New Zealand coast on Saturday a falling barometer indicated a change and the dozen passengers on board found unsettled weather on their arrival here. The Waipawa has abou 2000 tons of cargo for discharge here and three passengers are booked for this port. Three left the ship at Suva, and the others are making the round trip. The passenger list is as follows; — Wellington, Mrs M. A. Richardson; Timaru, Mrs M. Finn, Master J. Finn; Suva—Mr G. A. Peck, Mr and Mrs W. Wise; round voyage—Lieu-tenant-colonel F.. Johnston is in command of the Waipawa and his officers are: Chief, Mr G. M. Robertson; second, Mr R. A. Barnes; third, Mr J. W. Pain; fourth, Mr N. E. Wood; chief engineer, Mr H. R. Leffler; second, Mr A. L. Blackman; third, Mr G. Paape; fourth, Mr D. K. James; chief steward, Mr R. T. B. Watts; ship’s surgeon. Dr A.
