He defeated some really smart horses in yesterday’s race. Timurkhan is owned and trained by the former jockey Jim Pike. The Iliad colt Diomedes, having his first race in the Juvenile Handicap for colts and geldings, performed creditably to finish fifth in a good field.

HIGH DISDAIN STILL WINNING SYDNEY, Feb. 7. (Received Feb. 7, at 9 p.m.) The former New Zealand galloper High Disdain, who at the age of seven won .the Villers Stakes in 1931, was successful in the two principal events at a country meeting at Tarana, New South Wales, last week.. A, Sydney sporting writer says: “We have often written, ‘ They breed ’em tough in New Zealand.’ Some cast-iron horses have come from the Dominion, and numbered among them is High Disdain, who is now 13.”

WILLI AMSTOWN MEETING MELBOURNE, Feb. 7. (Received Feb. 7, at 9 p.m.) Two New Zealand-bred horses, Golden Promise and Prince Quex, fought out a stirring finish in the richly-en-dowed Williamstown Stakes. Prince Quex, after following Golden Promise in the middle and early stages, shot to the front entering the straight, and appeared to have the race won when Golden Promise, vigorously ridden by Skidmore, got up in the last stride for a dead-heat, with Boongarry a length and a-half away third. The result was as follows: PRINCE QUEX (N.Z.), 8.8 (O’Brien) t GOLDEN PROMISE (N.Z.)* 9*o (Skidmore) + BOONGARRY, 7.10 (Breasley) .. 3 Also started: Donaster.
