MINISTER OF PUBLIC WORKS

A COMPREHENSIVE TOUR QTAGO AND SOUTHLAND (Special to Daily Times) ■'. ■-■■'■. Feb. 5. . A comprehensive tour of the South Island will be made by the Minister of Public Works (Mr R. Semple), who left Wellington this evening for Nelson. The Minister will spend the weekend in North Canterbury, reaching Christchurch on Saturday night. On Tuesday morning he will leave Christchurch for Timaru by way of Geraldine artd Temuka, where he will receive deputations introduced by the member for the electorate, Mr T. D. Burnett, and in the afternoon the Minister will' visit the Timaru aerodrome and.also inspect the proposed Seadown drainage scheme. Mr Semple will leave Timaru on Wednesday morning for Oamaru and after receiving deputations there he will go on to Palmerston and thence to Dunedin. On the following morning the Minister will leave for Balclutha. A visit will be made to the mining township of Kaitangata, the night being spent at Gore. On Friday the Minister will receive deputations before leaving for Invercargill, Saturday and Sunday will be spent at Stewart Island. On Monday, February 15. Mr Semple will return to Invercargill and on Tuesday he will tour Wallace County, the electorate of the Leader of the Opposition. On the following day the Minister will leave Invercargill for the Homer Tunnel, spending the night at Te Anau. On Thursday morning he will proceed to Palmerston, where he will receive a deputation and then proceed to Queenstown, where deputations will be introduced bv the member for Central Otago (Mr W. A. Bodkin). On Friday Mr Semple will visit Glenorchv and Paradise, returning in the evening to Queenstown. and an early start will be made on Saturday morning for Pembroke and the Haast Pass road works The week-end will be scent at Lake Wanaka. On Monday, February 22. the Minister will go on to Cromwell,via Luggate. Deputations will .be received at Cromwell, Alexandra, Lauder and Ranfurlv. On Tuesday he will inspect the Mariiototo irrigation scheme before proceeding to Kurow and Waimate. The Minister will return to Wellington on February 25.
