TROTTING NOTES

By Sentinel

At Tapanui Carver Doone and Capricorn are two pacers who should race prominently at the Tapanui meeting to-day. Has a Stiff Neck Ray Queen, who is among those engaged at the Wellington meeting, is a useful pacer, despite the fact that she has a stiff neck. She is by Bingen King from Lady Raymond, dam of Raydus and Guymond. . The Roxburgh Meeting The date of the Roxburgh meeting has been changed from February 27 to April 10. This was necessary owing to the fact that the Gore Racing Club has the dates February 26 and 27. Brother to Bitter Sweet Gerfalcon, who is engaged in the Hutt Park meeting, is a brother to Bitter Sweet. Unlucky Navy Blue is a smart but unlucky pacer, and she had to be content with another second at Hutt Park on Thursday. By Adioo Guy Aide de Camp, who won at Hutt Park on Thursday, is a five-year-old gelding by Adioo Guy from Winnie Logan, by Logan Pointer—Dalwhinme. He is owned by Mr J. R. Frizzell, who has been a strong supporter of trotting for many years past and imported to New Zealand the standard-bred trotter Sonoma Harvester. The 4.20 Mark No horse in New Zealand has succeeded in winning off the 4.20 line. Only two horses, Harold Logan and Roi I'Or, have succeeded off 4.21. Great Bingen won a race when handicapped on 4.21, but that was before the present system of assessments was introduced, and under the old method Roi I'Or and Indianapolis, now on 4.20, would have been on 4.14 or thereabouts. Worm-out Tracks That dirt tracks wear out iS evident by the condition of the Addington and the Forbury courses (says the StarSun). The officials in charge of the grounds at Addington have taken steps to restore the course, and already 1000 loads of suitable soil have been carted on to the outside at the eastern end. It is intended to remove the soil near the inside fence and replace it with new material. For some time past the fodting has not been satisfactory, and many horses have lost their balance on ii The course at Forbury is in a worse state than the Addington track, and :is in urgent need of treatment. At the recent meeting at Dunedin, owners and trainers complained about the powdered and lifeless condition of the soil. The water cart was used to keep down the dust, and this formed a crust which gave away in large pieces and caused many reliable pacers to act badlv. Once on the journey, Rey Spec is regarded as a very honest horse, and it was a surprise when he made a bad break and wrecked half the field in the Metropolitan Handicap on Saturday. The Forbury Club enjoyed a very successful meeting, and a scheme to put the course into a good condition would be appreciated by owners ana trainers. t
