Forum Forum, who galloped wen at Riccarton on Thursday morning, is a four-year-old gelding by Cockpit from Ennea. Argentic Although Argentic has. 9.8 in the Midsummer Handicap, he is one of the best handicapped horses in the race on Wellington form. Hoyal Chief Royal Chief has rivalled Francis Drake and the fact will probably make him favourite for the Middle Park Plate. Chokehore Lodge Colts • Wild Chase and Paper Slipper have been shaping well in their recent track work. They represent class. The Riverton Meeting The star features of the Riverton Racing Club's meeting will be the Riverton Cup, of 600sovs, Great Western Steeplechase, of 500sovs, Southern Champion Hack Handicap, of 400sovs, and Riverton Steeplechase, of 400sovs. Cuddle's Rider L J. Ellis, who left for Australia in order to ride Cuddle in her engagements in Australia, states that, the length of his stay depends upon the form of the mare. If she fails to act up to expectations, it is unlikely that either will wait for the Easter racing at Randwick. Apart from Cuddle, he will have no other engagements. Wild Chase When Wild Chase runs to-day in the Midsummer Handicap he will, be having his first race since the spring. He had three starts at the New Zealand Cup meeting, winning the Kiccarton Handicap, Derby and Canterbury Cup. Then he had a spell, owing to knee trouble, but he may be too new to show his best, though he has been galloping in fine style. From One Stable There are two races on to-day's programme at Riccarton in which two-year-olds may take part, and H. and A. Cutts expect to produce Ave juveniles. Mob Rule, coupled with the three-year-old Paper Slipper,, will represent Sir Charles Clifford in the Middle Park Plate, in which Mr G. K. Macdonald will start Lazybones, a promising stayer. Sir Charles will have the unbeaten Haughty Winner, also Night Dress-, having his first race, in the Lyttelton Plate, in which Mrs H. B. Douglas will run Mulatto, an improving filly. At Onkaparinga The Onkaparinga Racing Club treats owners as considerately as possible For instance, it costs only llsovs to start a horse in the Onkaparinga Steeplechase, of 2000 soys, and only 3sovs for each of two 500sovs stakes on the programme. The Late Mr John Edmond The late Mr John Edmond, was always keenly interested in racing and trotting and at different times owned some fairly good horses. The best was the All Black horse Balmanno, who won the Caulfield Guineas and other races in his colours. Balmanno was trained by another ex-New Zealander in D. J. Price, who trained some or Mr Edmond's horses for many years. D. J. Price also successfully trained some light harness horses for Mr Edmond in Melbourne when the sport was on a. higher plane than it seems to be at present. The late Mr Edmond had been a resident of Melbourne for m?ny years, but always kept in.touch with his many friends in Dunedin. Me paid occasional visits to New and kindly remembrances of old Dunedin were reflected in the gifts he annually .made to charitable institutions. Heritage

jCThe announcement of a -the New Zealand-bred colt Heritage in the All-India Eclipse Stakes makes Very pleasing reading. The race, which holds an important place on the Indian calendar, is run over a mile ana a-quarter at fined weights, the maximum for five and six-year-olds being fixed at 9.0. The stake value of the race is 75,000 rupees, which is reckoned to be equal to about £4500 in Australian money. Heritage is trained by L. H. Hewitt. Twelve months ago Heritage was purchased in New Zealand on account of the Maharajah of Idah for 2500gns, and, so far as is known, the Eclipse Stakes marked his first success for the Indian noble. Heritage, who is by the English-bred , sire Posterity from the New Zealandbred mare Homage, was bought when a yearling for 525gns by Mr W. H. Gaisford, and under the colours of that sportsman he won several good races, the C.J.C. Challenge Stakes, seven furJongs, at two years old, and the Trentliam Stakes, one mile and a-quarter at three years old, being his most noteworthy performances. Heritage is not the first New Zealand-bred horse to win an important race in India. Four years ago Karapoti, by General Latour, scored in the Rajpipla Cup, run over a mile, in which he displayed brilliancy. He was bought in Auckland for 2000gns. • Other New Zealand horses who scored victories in India include Soultline. Synagogue. Master Delaval, The Monk, Kahapa, and Heremia. » In the Past The-dispersal sale of the Westmere Stud serves to revive recollections of nrevious sales of the same character (says "Phaeton") in this Dominion.
