TAIERI AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY

MONTHLY MEETING . There was an attendance of 19 membc-rs at the monthly meeting of the Taieri Agricultural Society, Mr J?mes Dow presiding. Before proceeding with the ordinary business the chairman referred to four deaths of men who had been connected with the society in both earlier and recent years. Mr James Gow, he said, was one of the pioneers of the society, and was vicepresident in 1886. Mr Peter Robertson had been a prominent exhibitor and life member; and Mr Alex. Thomson (Kelso) had also been a member and exhibitor. Mr R. Yardley had been a breeder and a judge. To the relatives of all four the sympathy of the meeting was extended. The secretary of. the Friesian As,sociation acknowledged receipt of a marked catalogue of the recent show detailing awards. The winner of the Friesian special prize was Mr W. N. Taylor (Silverside), with 17£ points. A similar letter was read from the Clydesdale Horse Society, noting that Mr John Young had won the society's medal with Ochtertyre Alonette. Accounts totalling £7 lis 7d were passed for payment. The secretary submitted a statement of the Summer Show, which showed a credit of £9l 5s sd. Mr J. A. Fowler received special thanks for making two boilers for the society's hall. • Mr A. Walker was asked to interview the Domain Board in connection with tree cutting at the Show Grounds.
