CORONATION DAY
PUBLIC HOLIDAY PROCLAIMED (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, Feb. 3. Coronation Day (May 12) has been appointed by royal proclamation a bank holiday and a public holiday throughout the United Kingdom. There will be no air review in connection with the Coronation, but the King will attend a Royal Air Force display at Hendon on June 26.
LOSS IN WORKERS’ WAGES
LONDON, Feb. 3
Under the heading, “ The Wrong Way to Celebrate the Coronation,” the Daily Herald points out that a holiday on May 12 will mean that the workers who are paid by the day, hour or piece will lose a day’s pay. It says in an editorial that in many cases a cut of one-sixth in a week’s income would mean disaster to the family budget. The day must not be marred by enforced cuts.
