FEDERATION OF BRITISH INDUSTRIES

LORD HIRST RE-ELECTED <From Our Own Correspondent) LONDON, Jan. 16. The Grand Council of the Federation of British Industries unanimously approved the nomination of Lord Hirst for the office of president of the Federation of British Industries for the coming year. His name was ppt forward by Lord Herbert Scott, who, after referring to Lord Hirst’s personal qualities and the work which he had already done for the federation, emphasised the necessity of continuity in the office of president at the present time. The year which lay ahead promised to be, he said, one of exceptional importance, and, in particular, there would be questions of inter-imperial trade to bo settled during the summer. He was certain that there was no man in England more fitted to look after the interests of British manufacturers, and to lend his knowledge and counsel in future negotiations with the dominions.

Lord Barnby. another past-president of the federation, substantiated Lord Herbert Scott's remarks, and assured the members of the council that they would be very fortunate if Lord Hirst would consent to carry on for another year the great work which he had already performed for the federation and for British industry.

Lord Hirst thanked the council foi the honour conferred by their request to him to remain in office for another year, and promised to do all in his power to further the interests of British industry.
