MINERS ON STRIKE
INCREASED PAY DEMANDED OWNERS ACCEPT TERMS (Per United Press Association) WHANGAREI, Jan. 6. About 80 men engaged at the Kamo and Ruatangata coal mines went on strike, demanding a 10 per cent, increase in pay for day wages men, the increase to be retrospective to the date when a similar amount was granted by the Hikurangi Company. The strike was short-lived, as the owners conceded the men’s demands. The question of making the increase in nay retrospective to December 1 last was referred to arbitration.
