MUNICIPAL FARM

AN AUCKLAND ENTERPRISE SUBSTANTIAL WOOL CHEQUE (Special to Daily Times) AUCKLAND, Dec. 2. Satisfaction with the returns obtained at the recent wool sale from wool produced on the City Council’s farm at Motuihi Island was expressed by members of the City Council Parks Committee when they visited the island to-day. It was stated that the council obtained an average of Is 4d a pound for its wool, the total cheque amounting approximately to £SOO. The City Council is farming about 500 acres on the island. It was seen that the pastures were in excellent condition, and all the stock appeared to be thriving well. At present there are 1500 sheep grazing on the island as well as 65 cattle. The farm this season has sold 100 fat lambs, receiving an average of 22s 6d, and has a further 600 about ready for the market. A steady effort has been made to improve tne flocks on the island, and many of the poorer-quality sheep, which were taken over when the council assumed control of its portion of the island, have been rejected. The intention now is to build up a flock of stud sheep so that the maximum returns may be obtained. Recently 65 stud rams were placed on the farm
