Emerson after a spell of 12 months. Wexford Bridge Wexford Bridge has been turned out for a lengthy spell in order to be given a chance of completely recovering from a ricked joint, Chrysology ' Chrysology’s form on the flat may be too ancient to give him a chance under 10.12 in the High-weight Handicap to be run at Invercargill. | Smoko •> I The Woodend gelding Smoko, who is | engaged at Invercargill, won the Hunters’ Flat Handicap at the Otago Hunt meeting, but on form at the Gore spring meeting Galleon should beat him. Ocean Singer Although Ocean Singer did not show up in his races at Gore, his name is being mentioned in connection with the Southland Cup. New Zealanders Queen of Song and Desert Chief are amongst the probable starters in the Consolation Stakes ot 2500sovs, one mile and three furlongs, to be run at Caulfield to-day. Wellington Cup Meeting The Wellington Cup will carry a., stake of lOOOsovs, or an increase of 400sovs over last, year. The total increase of stakes over last year will be ROOOsovs. ~ . Roslyn Trial There is a good deal of the unknown quantity in the Roslyn Trial Handicap. Rodeur and Natty have some form to recommend them, and track reports sneak favourably of Silver Choir and Sailing Lady. Wymvood Wynwood 7.12 was third to Gold Boa 8 2 and Ballad 8.3 on the second day at Gore, and finished five lengths r away in Imin Msec; On the first day Henry Dawson, at a difference of finished in front of Wynwood, and at Invercargill the latter has to concede 31b over a mile;: ■ ■ ■ '■ _ Illyria -■ : _ ’ Mrs B. H. Edkins has sold the Iliad— ’ Sunkissed filly Illyria R. George, who will send her to the stud. Vei> bad joints make her worthless as a racing proposition. Sunkissed is an j imported" mare, by Sunstar-r-Kiss Cannon. by Gay Crusader. On Same Terms , Guarantee meets Wild Career on the same terms as when the latter finished in front of the former m the Cressy Handicap. This reads in Javour of Wild Career and the Southland Cup would supply Guarantee a much be .ter winning chance, as the extra distance will suit him. The December Stakes Horses can be withdrawn on Monday, November 30, from the December Stakes on payment of Isov. Amongst the New Zealand horses still engaged is Royal Order. On general entry day it costsklsovs to withdraw a horse, and there is a 13sovs acceptance payable for all horses remaining in tne race on the Thursday preceding it. Wild Career Wild Career carried 8.0. when Great Star 8.3 beat him a head in the Creasy Handicap in Imin 38 3-ssec. This i» sufficient to make him favourite for the Tradesmen’s Handicap, in wnicn uie field may weaken on present strength if some of those engaged start in earlier engagements. ~ A Small Field There is a rumour that Grand Finale will not be a starter at Invercargill. With Last Link also an absentee, me Southland Cup will be a duel between Guarantee and Wall Street, with the Paper Money horse starting favourite A Pick for, Punters The multitude of punters are always trying to pick winners. ' According to Dame Rumour they would be lucky io pick a starter in some of the races at Invercargill. Several horses claim two engagements, and owmers in an effort to dodge the apparently dififou.t may actually dodge themselves. Royal Pal Royal Pal has latterly been racing over hurdles, but has some form on the flat to his credit. At the Duneam spring meeting last season Royal Pax 7.10 .finished third to Queen Dorothy 7.4 i and Alma 8.6. three lengths away in Imin 27 l-ssec. He is now a more seasoned gelding, and may. shape well in the Southland , High-weighl Handicap. ■ Carelessness One of the mistakes that occur hi the latest Issue of the Turf Register crops up in connection with Ocean Singer. He won the'Tapanui Handicap with 7.4} by a length from Trivet, who, according to the Turf Register, carried 7.5. The Tapanui race book shows that Trivet carried 10.0. W hen ■ such mistakes occur the Turf Register becomes worse than useless as a source of information. The field for the Tapanui Handicap was comprised ot Trivet 10.0, Impala 7.5, Ocean Singer 7.3, carried 7.4}. A Veteran Enthusiast An interested visitor to the racing and trotting carnival last week was the Tapanui sportsman. Mr A. Munvard. Now in his ninetieth year, Mr Munyard has attended meetings at Riccarton for more than 50 years. During that period he was a member of the Tapanui Racing Club. For years he was president, and acted as secretary for 22 years. Mr Munyard is still m excellent health, and takes a keen interest in both forms of horse racing. Blazon Reports from, the south state that Blazon bears an improved appearance, and has done well since going to Invercargill. He was once regarded as one of the best horses in training at WinEatui, but got tired of racing. Blazon showed something like a return tn earlv form by winning three times last season At 7 Vincent he won the Clare Memorial Handicap with 8.11 from Mary Pratt 9.0 and Dorothy 810 Blazon won thp High-weiglit Handicap at Waimate with 9.3 from Colossian 9.8 and Courtyard 10.13. and his other win was in the Tuapeka Handicap, one mile and a-Quarter, with 9 0 from Cheap Money 8.7 and Toreador 9.0 Blazon finished the season in racing over hurdles.

The Flying Handicap All the field in the Flying Handicap to be run at Invercargill were seen out at the Gore spring meeting. On the first day All Humbug 7.8 was third to Enwbod 7.10 and Bay Duke 8.3. Lochlaggan 9.1. Beam 7.12. and Moneyless 7.12 were unplaced in Imin Msec. On the second day Amelita 7.2 was second to Silver Lark 7.7, beaten a neck in Imin Msec, with Beam 7.13, Moneyless 7.11. All Humbug 7.11, and Paladino 7.53 unplaced. Lochlaggan. if in racing shape, would probably start favourite. Guarantee Guarantee scored only one win and a' place last season out of nine starts, and he was turned out for a lengthy spell after running in the New Zealand Cup. Guarantee 8,10 was beaten a head in the Ranfurly Handicap by Tuirau 8.10 in Imin 40sec, and won the Teschemaker Handicap with 8.12 by three lengths from Quite Soon 8.6 and Tout le Monde 7.12 Tn 2mm 7 2-ssec. Taken all round, Guarantee s form is much better than that of Wall Street, and they are rated at even weights at Invercargill. Ballad - Ballad is a brother to Meadow Lark, and won at the Gore spring meeting in the smart time of Imin Msec, equalling the best time put up at the meeting. On the second day Ballad ran second to Gold Boa, three lengths away,* when giving lib, over six furlongs run in Imin Msec. This form reads good enough to bring Ballad into favour for the Stewart Island Handicap. Galleon Galleon won three times last season, and was six times placed out of 12 starts. His final win was at the Birchwood Hunt meeting with 8.7 over six furlongs in Imin 19sec in heavy going. At Riverton he was a good third to ’ Tooley street .8.9 and Island Linnet 8.4 when carrying 8.13 over seven furlongs won in Imm 30sec. Galleon finished the season running third at Invercargill in the Bluff Handicap with 8.9 to Vantoon 7.0 and Cintilla 7.9 over a mile in heavy going. At the Gore spring meeting Galleon 9.0 was third to Araboa 8.5 and Jackahoy 8.5 over a mile in Imin 414-ss.ee. Smoko was fourth. On the second day of the meeting Galleon 8.9 was second to Jack Ahoy 8,9 a length and a-half away in Imin 44sec. This form will bring Galleon into favour for the Southland High-weight Handicap. The Southland Cup The strength of the Southland Cup field will be reduced to six, as Last, Link is regarded as a doubtful starter. Tauramai will have to show a return to form before coming back to favour. Guarantee was improving with each race at the New Zealand Cup meeting, and on the final day in the Cressy Handicap carried 9.6, and finished fourth to Great Star 8.3. Wild Career 8.0. and Ponty 9.9, dir : Imin 38 3-ssec. Heads separated the placed Tot, and Guarantee was finishing on after losing-ground at the start," Wall Street won at Gore with 8.5 over eight furlongs and ahalf in' Imin 48 I-ssec. Guarantee’s form reads rather better, and he should beat Wall Street at even weights. Wall Street Wall Street 7.4 was third in the Riverton Cup to Queen of Song 9.8 and Trivet 8.7 in 2min 8 4-ssec. He won the Monowai Handicap with 8.2 in Imm 43 4-ssec, and Tooley Street beat him in the Fiord Handicap by three lengths when in receipt of 121 b. Wall Street finished the season with an unplaced performance at Invercargill. This season he won at Gore by a short neck from Travenna. who,-was giving 181 b. Queen Dorothy 8.13 J was a length away. It is more than doubtful if Travenna cbtild give Guarantee 181 b over the distance, and the son of Paper Money reads better than Wall Street at Invercargill. Grand Finale has been a disappointment in his latest form, and Ocean Singer would have to make a big improvement on Gore form to be granted a chance. Toreador would be best suited by heavy going, and Guarantee will probably start a better favourite than Wall Street. Brunhilde Some were shy at supporting Brun-' hilde for a five-furlong race owing to a doubt about her staying the distance She has a pedigree strongly suggestive of stamina. Brunhilde was got by Siegfried from Speechless, by Demosthenes from Queen Kora, by Positano from Kora, by Stepniak from Demeter, by Wallace from Eleusis, by Barcaldine. The breeding of Brunhilde indicates that she may prove a good stayer when her powers are fully developed, and it will be interesting to watch her progress as she matures. She is trained at Trentham by S. J. Reid for Mr C. Ryan.
