Bowling Another challenge for the Jolly Cup was played at Alexandra on Thursday afternoon when a Cromwell rink —Dr Austin, G. Stumbles, J. Grant, and R. Congalton—played the holders—W Hewitt, J. H. Timmings, A. I. Milne, and J. Gardner. The holders again retained the cup with a comfortable margin, the score being 30 —15. Holiday Traffic The Alexandra district is again going to be very popular this holiday season, and innumerable inquiries are being received for lodgings, and there is also an active demand for houses to let. The Alexandra Bowling Club’s annual tournament at Christmas time is again attracting a large entry, and should prove very successful. Valedictory Prior to his departure for Wanganui, Mr T. A. Mooney was entertained at a social evening by a number of citizens. Mr Mooney has been actively interested in most local organisations, and at the time of his departure was secretary of the Alexandra District High School Committee. The Rev. Father O’Connell presided, and expressed the regret of all present at Mr Mooney’s departure. As a member of the Alexandra Herald staff he had shown fairness and impartiality in his press reports, and had gained the esteem of all readers of the Herald. The chairman presented Mr Mooney with a wallet of notes, with best wishes for the future happiness of himself, Mrs Mooney, and family. Messrs R. S Kinnaird (Horticultural Society). Mr P M’Ginnis (Fruitgrowers’ Association), and the representatives of all the sporting clubs in the town added their appreciation of the services rendered by Mr Mooney, who suitably replied. Personal Mr A. Ashworth, who has held the position of manager of the Alexandra Industrial Co-operative Society since its inception, has tendered his resignation. Mr Bate, of Wellington, has been appointed to the vacancy. Mr E. Fletcher Roberts, engineer to the Alexandra Borough Council, lias arrived in Alexandra to commence operations on the drainage scheme. Messrs C. E. Richards and R. Hewitt are at present on a business visit to Wellington.
