DEATH OF A CYCLIST
COLLISION WITH A TAXI WIDOW AWARDED £I7OO DAMAGES (Per United Press Association! WELLINGTON, Nov. 20. The evidence having been completed yesterday afternoon in the case in the Supreme Court in which Dorothy Collin, widow, of Wellington, claimed £2500 general damages from Percy Withers, a taxi proprietor, of Wellington, for the death of her husband in an accident, the jury to-day, before being addressed by counsel, visited the scene of the •mishap. Tfye plaintiff’s husband, Frederick Collin, received fatal injuries when his bicycle collided with a taxi driven by Oswald Alexander Lochore, an employee oi the defendant. Negligence on the part of Lochore was alleged by the plaintiff, but this was denied by the defence. After retiring the jury found that the taxi driver failed to keep a proper lookout and awarded the plaintiff £I7OO damages. Mr Justice Heed presided. On the application of counsel the defendant was granted 14 days in which to apply for a new trial.
